Tolkien and the Age of Forgery: Improving Antiquarian Practices in Arda
This article draws on previously unpublished manuscripts by Tolkien to argue that his motivation and methods used to create a national mythology echoed those of the eighteenth-century forgers James Macpherson and Thomas Chatterton.

BARS Stephen Copley Research Report: Tolkien’s Manuscripts
at the Bodleian Library, Oxford
Between 29.2.24 and 2.3.24 I visited the Bodleian Library, Oxford to look for references to the Romantics in Tolkien’s manuscripts. I am grateful that the research trip was funded by BARS’s Stephen Copley Research Award.
